Namboard checking out new market

Namboard Chief Executive Officer Siphephiso Dlamini spoke during a breakfast meeting at Happy Valley last Friday and announced that NAMboard is working on creating a platform for different farmers in the country to have their produce on the international market.

He said that they are negotiating with several markets around the world where they can trade. They are set on specific countries on different continents, and are guided by the market needs that are in the different markets.

The board is looking into market facilitation where stable crops include onions, tomatoes, potatoes, fruits, peppers, bay vegetable and yellow maize, whose estimated demand ranges from 3,000 MT to 6,000 MT valuing up to E60 million.

The programme is planning to develop an Agricultural Information System that will update farmers on what they need to plant and with available cropping area using SMS.

The company current exports include South Africa, France, Belgium and Sweden.

The country is in trade blocks with The Common Market of Eastern and South Africa (COMESA), the Southern African Development Community (SADC)Economic Partnership Agreements European Commission EU (EPA) and Middle East.
